Influencer marketing in the UAE is now regulated. From 31st January, 2026, anyone posting paid or branded content on social media needs to have an influencer license. You need this license regardless of your follower count or the platform you use. Whether you post on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat, or through a blog, the rule applies to you.

What is an Influencer License in UAE?

The influencer license in the UAE is actually a dual-licensing setup. The actual license allows you to establish yourself as a freelancer or business entity, while the advertiser permit allows you to legally make promotional content in the country.

What is the Advertiser Permit in Dubai?

The Advertiser Permit allows you to promote products, services, events, or activities on social media. Influencers in Dubai and anywhere else in the UAE need this permit to legally make content. The permit is free for the first three years, with an AED 1,000 renewal fee from the fourth year.

Is an Influencer License the Same as an Advertising Permit in Dubai?

No, they are not the same. An influencer license allows you to run a business or work as a freelancer in Dubai. The Advertiser Permit is a separate approval from the UAE Media Council that allows you to post branded or promotional content on social media. UAE social media influencers now need both to operate.

Who Needs an Influencer License in Dubai and the UAE?

Influencer License Requirements in UAE

Anyone who creates advertising or promotional content on social media, whether you do it regularly or occasionally, needs an influencer license. This means:

  • UAE residents and freelance influencers: If you live in the UAE and promote products or services on social media, whether you work as a freelancer or independently.

  • Social media creators accepting paid collaborations or gifts: If brands pay you, send you free products, or invite you for sponsored experiences in exchange for promotion.

Visiting influencers and international content creators: If you are visiting the UAE and create branded content in the country.

Do Micro-Influencers Need an Influencer License in the UAE?

The UAE has not set a minimum follower count for getting a license. If you post promotional or branded content on social media, you need an advertiser permit, no matter how big or small your audience is.

What Happens if You Don’t Get the Influencer License in UAE?

If you post branded or promotional content in the UAE without an influencer license after 31 January 2026, you could face a penalty. Sharing promotional content without a valid permit or license can lead to:

  • AED 10,000 fine for a first violation
  • Fines up to AED 40,000 if it happens again
  • Fines up to AED 1 million if the content also breaks media guidelines

If you post without proper approval, you risk temporary or permanent account suspension, removal of unlicensed posts without notice, and, if the violations continue, the complete termination of your account.

  2. Get a Certificate of Good Standing: Issued by the Dubai Police, you can get it through their app. It costs around AED 100-300, depending on your residency status.

  3. Apply for the advertiser permit: You can apply for the free permit on the UAE Media Council website. You will need to provide your e-trader license, Certificate of Good Standing, and some information about your social media account.
