Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) insurance is a government scheme available to all working resident individuals in the UAE. It was created to provide financial support during periods of unexpected unemployment. Knowing how to claim ILOE insurance is essential to ensure timely access to these benefits. The insurance was introduced to the UAE public in 2022 and was made mandatory for both expat and local employees at the beginning of 2023.

What is ILOE Insurance in UAE

ILOE unemployment insurance aims to provide a safety net to individuals between jobs, by offering compensation to cover their daily expenses.
You will get the insurance payout for up to three months after the termination of your job contract, as long as you didn’t resign of your own free will or were fired because of misconduct or other similar reasons.
The monthly ILOE insurance benefits you’ll receive will depend on your basic salary, as the amount cannot exceed 60% of your current basic wage for the last six months. There are many ways you can subscribe to the insurance, which we’ll discuss in a later section.

How to Claim ILOE Insurance

1. Check Your Policy Status

If you ever have to claim the ILOE Dubai insurance, make sure that your premiums have been paid on time, and that your policy status is active. Late payments or expired policies can make it more difficult to claim your insurance cash amount.

2. Submit Application

You can submit the application on the ILOE portal, app, or by calling 600 599 555. For online applications, you will need to attach a few documents along with your application form. The application form will ask for your bank details, so make sure you have them ready.

4. Follow Up (if needed)

If your claim hasn’t been approved in 30 days, you can follow up by checking your application with the reference number you would have received after submitting your claim. In some cases, you may be asked to provide additional documentation by the insurance provider. You can also call the toll free number to track your application status.

What is the Penalty for Not Paying ILOE Insurance?

UAE residents have to pay their insurance premium within 90 days of the set payment date. If you don’t make the payment on time, your insurance certificate could be cancelled and you will have to go through the application process all over again.
The government has made it mandatory for employees to subscribe to ILOE insurance within four months of their entry into the country or issuance of a new work permit.
It is important to note that you can’t get a new work permit until all your penalties have been cleared. You can face two types of penalties for ILOE insurance UAE:
  • Failure to subscribe: AED 400
  • Failure to pay premium: AED 200

These penalties may be deducted from your gratuity payment or collected from your registered bank account.
