The UAE Visa Amnesty Program facilitates individuals who have expired visas and have overstayed in the UAE. Under this program, individuals can leave the country without paying heavy fines or other penalties during the amnesty period. They also have the option to regularize their visa status without being subject to fines or potential travel bans.

Overstaying Fines

Last year, the UAE government standarized the overstaying fines. Now those who stay beyond the expiry date of their residence, tourist or visit visa will be fined AED 50 per day, as a penalty. Previously, the fine was AED 100 per day.

Visa Update or Departure Permit

You can apply for a residence or travel permit online through the authority’s website or smart channels. If biometric records are incomplete, you may need to visit an immigration center. You’ll need a departure permit to return home, which grants you a 14-day travel window.

Exit Permit Conditions

If your exit permit expires during the amnesty period, you will still be permitted to travel. However, if your permit expires after December 31, it will be cancelled, fines will be reapplied, and any travel bans will be reactivated.

What Happens After the Amnesty Period Ends?

The visa amnesty deadline UAE has been extended till 31st December, visa violators have got more time to address their visa concerns. Once the amnesty period ends, fines will be reintroduced for those who remain in violation. Authorities have also warned that inspection campaigns targeting violators will be increased, and legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply after the deadline.

Individuals unable to find a job during the 30-day grace period can adjust residency.

Ineligible for the UAE Visa Amnesty

Recent Residency Offenders

Violations after September 1, 2024, are not covered.

Deported Individuals

Previously deported persons remain ineligible.

Illegal Entrants

Those without valid entry documents are excluded.

Post-September Absconders

Absconding cases after September 1, 2024, don’t qualify.

Criminal Offenders

Serious crimes or ongoing charges are excluded.

Unrelated Legal Cases

Civil or criminal disputes outside visa violations are not included.

To determine your eligibility, visit an authorized General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) centre or access the UAE’s official immigration portals to check your visa status.

How to Apply for the UAE Visa Amnesty?

Eligible individuals can access the UAE Visa Amnesty 2024 through multiple channels. You can submit your application online via the ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security) or MOHRE (Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization) websites. You can also visit ICP offices, Facilitation Centers, or the Consulate General and Al Awir Immigration Center in Dubai. Fingerprinting is required and must be completed at designated centers, which can be found on the ICP website.
